The former owner of this VW Bug owned her for well over 20 years. Unfortunately, he was struck with a form of early onset dementia and his wife sold the car to his best friend, who the former owner had said he wanted the car to go to if anything happened to him.
When the friend, the current owner, got the car, it had some needs, the seats were worn, it was running but not great. He took it to Freccia Bros garage in Greenwich, CT and they got the Beetle set up.
VW Beetles are not known for a bunch of creature comforts. This one now starts and runs great, the interior is in very nice nick with a couple small repaired cracks in the dash. The seats are newly covered (F&R), the door panels look great and the carpets look good. The car was painted a few years back (by the former owner) but only exterior, the interior panels were not but they're clean and look good. The vinyl fabric headliner is also in very good condition.
The heater fan works, the wipers work, the signals work, the lights work, the horn works and the speedometer works (there are no other gauges - well, inside the speedo is the fuel gauge and it works too).
Under the frunk lid is carpeted, it's a little loose but the pile is still nice and tight and under the engine cover out back is also clean tidy .. not show clean but simple and functional, you really won't get that dirty working in this if you had to.
The under carriage is also clean, flat black with two areas of welded rust repair. This car has no rot.
The condition of the cream colored paint is also very good, with a few small chips noted in the photos.
The engine fires right up, the clutch works as it should and grabs nicely, steering is light, brakes work exactly as Volkswagen designed them .. they are not modern ABS power disc .. there are four, non-power drums. The car is light and they easily stop it.
This little car is a blast to drive. The joy of driving any old car is the need to be alert, anticipatory driving. There are no nanny functions to keep you coddled, you shift the gears, you steer the big wheel and you watch all around you for what is happening, as if you have size 12 shoes, you need to know when you're moving that big foot up off the gas and over to the tiny little brake pedal .. careful, don't hit the gas! LOL
If you're looking for a super solid, great looking, fun car that you actually wholly participate in the driving, this VW Beetle is for you.
The odometer shows just 353 miles. We know that is not actual mileage, however, true mileage is not known. It doesn't burn any oil, doesn't smoke at start up.
Keep her tuned and maintained and the 1500 53HP engine will last a very long time.
This isn't a concours quality car but it's darn clean and looks great .. she will attract attention at any cruise or car show you bring her out to.
Asking price is $15500
