The first owner of this wonderful piece of art was a fisherman in Jamestown, RI. He drove it regularly in the good months and was often seen scooting around the island and nearby Newport. There are some awesome driving roads on both islands.
In the early 80's he decided to sell her and get something else.
The current owners are only the second owners of this well worn glove, as she is all original aside from normal wear items. All numbers matching. The odometer shows just 57,727 miles.
She still wears her original maroon paint and black leather interior. The seats are almost brown, but they are supple and soft.. like a well worn driving glove.
She looks like a car that has 57K miles but is also almost 60 years old.
The paint has some nicks and chips, a little faded here an there, but she still shines.
The interior is the same, a little wear here and there, but all the Series 1 bits are in place. The toggle switches, the covered headlights, small bumpers, small tail lights and that 4.2 litre, DOHC inline six that is as smooth as silk, fed by three SU carbs. The torque builds through the rpms and slowly pulls you back into those warm comfy buckets, as you snicker through the 4 speed manual transmission.
If you're getting the feeling I'm painting a masterpiece here, it's because I am.. at least attempting to.
This car is an icon and is all original, my belief is she should be kept just as she is, in all her glory.
Enzo Ferrari called the Series 1 E Type, "the most beautiful car in the world".
Because the current owners have been such great caretakers, she starts right up, idles smoothly and drives like she did 60 years ago. This is a sports car and is meant to be driven that way.
Some of what they've done over the last couple of years:
Complete brake and clutch replacement and rebuild.
5 new Vredstein Sprint Classics in 185/VR15.
New stainless fuel tank and dual exhaust.
Flushed radiator and new hoses.
New Air and fuel filters.
New plugs and wires.
New ball joints
Alignment
and the carbs were adjusted and tuned.
They have done regular maintenance throughout their 37 year tenure as owners.
This car is full of character and although she may not win in a Jaguar concours d'Eleagnce, she will certainly take home awards in terms of a true, original, survivor and will definitely garner as many admirers as any fully restored car, maybe more...
For those looking for specs - The 4.2 L put out 265 HP and 283 lb ft of torque.
The rack and pinion steering is light and the large steering wheel makes driving easy.
4 speed manual transmission puts the TQ to the pavement via a Jaguar independent rear end and the non-power brakes are discs all around (the rears are inboard for better efficiency).
She'll hit 60 MPH in just about 7 seconds on her way to an estimated top speed of 150 MPH.
The front suspension is torsion bar with shocks and A arms, ant-roll bar.
The rear is dual coil over, with A arms and ant-roll bar.
Now, just get in and soak up this piece of art.
Asking price is $47,000
