1967 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible - 1 Owner, 77K Miles

In 1967, Mr. Veneri walked into Savelle Ford in Thomaston, CT and purchased this shiny Colonial White, brand new Galaxie 500 Convertible. He ordered a few minor options such as the Cruise-O Matic 3 speed auto transmission, accent stripe, the 225 HP 289 V8/2V, power steering, full wheel covers, white wall tires, undercoat, radio and the black soft top.

Almost all that is still on the car and what has been changed has been detailed in the notebook in the glovebox. Every oil change (the date, mileage and viscosity), every service, when the brakes were done, noted in the book along with the mileage, replaced the top in 1989. He also installed an after market alarm system in the mid 80's. Tires were also replaced in the 80's. Just recently the daughter had the starter replaced, the starter solenoid and the power steering pump. Aside from those items, this car is original. For those spec minded folks, it was manufactured on the 25th of May and was distributed to the New York office, paint code M-white, Trim Code 6A Black and Black vinyl, Axle code 6 - 2:80-1 gears and Trans code X- FMX 3 speed auto.

The last service her dad did was Dec. 10th, 1991 and the car had just over 75,000 miles on it.

The daughter has driven it since but only put another 2500 miles on it, taking it locally to car shows and bringing her dad out to shows before he passed. The car now shows 77,667 miles.

She tells stories of the yearly trips to Florida, with every square inch of interior and trunk space filled.

The car is just about 60 years old and looks like it's less than 20. It has always been in a garage.

There are a few touched up nicks in the paint, but again, he was meticulous and when he saw a small nick, he used the factory supplied touch up paint to do just that.

The biggest flaw is the 2" tear in the top (shown in the photos), the daughter said she noticed it after attending a car show and thinks someone maybe have leaned on it with something "sharp" enough to cause the tear.

The car is clean inside, out and under. You can eat off most surfaces under the hood and the frame and undecarriage are almost as clean and just as rust free. Maybe a spot of surface rust here or there.

Turn the key, pump the gas and it fires right up. It does take a little bit for it to warm up and then it's ready to go cruising. All the gauges work (fuel and speedo), the cigarette lighter works, the horn and wipers, all the lights, this even offered an advance safety feature of emergency flashers and they work too. The power top lowers the top in just under 20 second and raises it back just as quickly, in case you run into a rainstorm while out cruising with the top down, you won't get that wet.

The 289 propels this boat easily enough, it isn't quick but it'll hit 80 without problem. It does float though .. handling is boat-like, part of that may be the 40 year old tires, but most of that is 60 year old technology. The 4 wheel non-power drum brakes stop it well while under 40 mph, but take more effort from above that .. again, that is the nature of 60 year old tech, not a statement of the working condition.

When thinking about a car like this, one must consider, how many one owner, 77K mile, beautiful condition, great driving Galaxie 500 convertibles are out there, where will you find another?

The original window sticker, the original bill of sale, the original owners manual (with Mr. Veneri's name in it) and the original Ford  protecto plate come with the car, as does the original spare tire and jack.

With that consideration, the asking price is $21,500.
